A Look at the Finnish Goaltender's Career

Kiprusoff's Number Retired by Flames

The Calgary Flames have announced that they will retire the number of former goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff. Kiprusoff, who was born on October 26, 1976, in Turku, Finland, played 10 seasons with the Flames from 2003 to 2013. He was a key member of the team's run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2004, and he won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goaltender in 2006.

Kiprusoff was a fan favorite in Calgary, and he is widely considered to be one of the best goaltenders in Flames history. He finished his career with a record of 301-201-63, with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. He also recorded 42 shutouts.

Kiprusoff's number will be retired on March 6, 2023, in a ceremony before the Flames' game against the Nashville Predators. He will become the fourth Flames player to have his number retired, joining Lanny McDonald (No. 9), Joe Nieuwendyk (No. 25), and Jarome Iginla (No. 12).
